23.4.6. Động từ + mệnh đề that (Verb + that-clause)

Định nghĩa: Khi mệnh đề that (that clause) được dùng làm tân ngữ cho các động từ tường thuật agree, allege, announce, assume, hope, believe, claim, consider, estimate, expect, feel, find, know, report, rumor, say, think, understand, etc. thì dạng bị động có thể được diễn đạt theo hai cách:

→ The Prime Minister is believed to be seriously ill.

→ It is believed that the Prime Minister is seriously ill.

(Người ta cho rằng Thủ tướng đang bệnh nặng.)

They say that the government is studying the proposal.

→ The government is said to be studying the proposal.

→ It is said that the government is studying the proposal.

(Người ta nói rằng chính phủ đang xem xét đề xuất đó.)

People think that the robbers stole more than £3 million.
