Ex:
- ‘The Moon is more than 380,000 km from the Earth.’ → The professor told us (that) the Moon is more than 380,000 km from the Earth. (Giáo sư nói cho chúng tôi biết mặt trăng cách trái đất hơn 380.000 km.)
- ‘Reindeer can swim really well.’ → He said (that) reindeer can swim really well. (Anh ấy nói tuần lộc bơi rất giỏi.)
- ‘My father always drinks coffee for breakfast.’ → Jim said (that) his father always drinks coffee for breakfast. (Jim nói rằng cha anh ấy luôn uống cà phê trong bữa sáng.)
- ‘I’m American.’ → Paul told the police he is American. [He still is American.] (Paul nói với cảnh sát anh ấy là người Mỹ.)
- ‘It will be windy tomorrow.’ → The weather forecast said it will be windy tomorrow. (Dự báo thời tiết báo ngày mai trời gió.)
Trong các trường hợp này, ta cũng có thể đổi động từ sang quá khứ.
