Câu cảm thán bắt đầu bằng What (a/ an)…! và How…! thường được thuật lại bằng động từ exclaim/ say that.
Ex:
- ‘What a lovely garden!’ (Khu vườn đẹp quá!) → She exclaimed/ said that it was a lovely garden.
- She exclaimed/ said that the garden was lovely. (Cô ấy thốt lên rằng khu vườn đẹp quá!)
- ‘How hot it is!’ (Trời nóng quá!) → He exclaimed/ said that it was hot. (Anh ta kêu rằng trời nóng quá.)

- ‘Good!’ he exclaimed → He gave an exclamation with pleasure.
- ‘Ugh!’ she exclaimed → She gave an exclamation with disgust.
- He said, ‘Thank you!’ → He thanked me.
- He said, ‘Welcome!’ → He welcomed me.
- He said, ‘Good morning!’ → He greeted me.
- He said, ‘Happy Christmas!’ → He wished me a happy Christmas.
- He said, ‘Congratulations!’ → He congratulated me.
- He said, ‘Liar!’ → He called me a liar.
- He said, ‘Damn!’ → He swore.
