4. Câu phức hợp (Complex - Compound sentences)

Câu phức hợp là câu có hai hay nhiều mệnh đề chính và một hay nhiều mệnh đề phụ.
Ex: As they trusted me, they gave it to me and asked me to preserve it.
(Vì họ tin tôi nên họ trao nó cho tôi và yêu cầu tôi bảo quản.)
[một mệnh đề phụ: As they trust me; hai mệnh đề chính: they gave it to me và (they) asked me to preserve it]
When the sky darkened and the cold wind blew, she hurriedly crossed the forest and tried to find a footpath.
(Khi trời tối sầm lại và gió lạnh bắt đầu thổi, cô ấy vội băng rừng cố tìm một con đường mòn.)
[hai mệnh đề phụ: When the sky darkened và the cold wind blew; hai mệnh đề chính: she hurriedly crossed the forest và (she) tried to find a footpath]
